What kinds of paints and products do we use?
A very good question!
We DO NOT use acrylic, tempera, or any kind of craft paints for face painting. These are not designed for skin and can cause allergic reactions, wear uncomfortably and even stain the skin. Do not make the mistake of thinking 'Non-Toxic" means skin safe. It does not. For our Glimmertoos, we use skin safe, dermatologist tested adhesive and FDA compliant glitters.
We DO use cosmetic grade face and body paint. Professional artists such as clowns, Las Vegas performers, movies productions and Broadway shows like the famous CATS know how important it is to have paints and cosmetics safe enough to be used day after day without harming their skin. Our paints are produced by the same companies many of them buy from.
Clean up of our designs
The paints we have chosen are water base, meaning they usually can be removed with a good quality baby wipe or a just little water. On occasion a little mild soap might be required, but rarely anything more than that. They won't stain the skin either (although you may want to be careful with light colored fabrics).
Our tattoos come off with baby oil or alcohol. Just soak for 10 minutes or so, and rub off. No harsh soaps or chemicals are required for ANY of our products!.
What do we charge per hour (1 hour is the minimum time we book)?
FIGURING THE TIME NEEDED: Keep in mind that one Designer can produce 10-12 Lickety-Quik faces (See our Gallery for examples - the more complex designs add detail and color but reduce the # of faces/hour) or Glittertoos an hour.

Travel Expenses
We are willing to do some traveling, within reason. We charge 35 cents a mile for events outside Cheyenne. We measure by Google.maps from the Cheyenne Capitol minus 5 miles. If the time and distance is such that after leaving at the end of the event our designers would be unable to return home by 10 PM, then a night's lodging will also need to be provided. This will need to be a hotel room (with a reputable chain) with 2 queen beds unless other arrangements are agreed upon a week in advance of the event.
Equipment Needed
Ideally we would like the client to provide table, chairs, hot water and -- if the event is outside -- shelter from sun and weather. Cross Eyed Designs can provide it's own table, chairs, water and sun shelter if needed, but this must be agreed upon in advance. At this time Cross Eyed Designs can not provide lighting for night time events, so for outdoor events taking place or continuing into the evening hours, the client will need to take lighting into consideration.
Well, besides a good number of private clients, we have also done work for:
Laramie County Library (Summer Reading Kick offs - 4x)
Deming Miller School (School Carnival - 3x)
Blue Cross/ Blue Shield (Company picnic - 2x)
Relay for Life (walkathon)
Wyoming Children's Society (Summer picnic - 2x)
Cheyenne Meth Initiative (Celebration picnic - 2x)
Walk for Life (walkathon)
Dillards (Family Day - 2x)
Lowes Distribution Center (Family Picnic)
...to name a few. :)
There are some important things to consider before hiring a face painter. The link below has a lot of excellent information
http://www.facepainting.net/Information.htm
And before you hire us there are some questions you'll want to consider, such as...
Question 1: Will this party be wet or dry? No, we aren't meaning alcohol. Our paints are water-base and will smear and run when wet. A lot of things can make a party wet... a pool, a sprinkler or even sweaty games. If any of these might prove a complication to face painting, that's okay, we have an alternative. Check out our Glittertoos! You can always request, prior to the party, that we bring the materials for the Glittertoo Upgrade just in case and we won't charge you for it unless we use it. Regardless - your painters will need access to fresh (preferably HOT) water. If there will be no water at all available at your site, please let them know!
Question 2: How many people do you want decorated? It is best to plan on a few extra - you never know who else might be enticed to try it out.
Question 3: What level of work do you want done? Our face paint designs run from simple to complex. Take a look at our gallery to get an idea what we can offer. The more detail and colors, the longer the design takes. Plan on designs taking the maximum number of minutes listed for the purpose of figuring time. It's better to plan over than under.
Question 4: How long will you want us/need us? It may be the length of your event will determine which level of detail our designs should be, or do you want to plan the time of your event around getting the faces you want? To get an idea how long you'll need us (or if you might want to consider an additional Designer - two painters will half the time needed), simply take the answer of Question 2 and multiply it by Question 3; round up to the nearest half hour. If we actually finish a half hour or more before our scheduled time is up we will adjust our invoice accordingly.
Question 5: Are you setting up outside? Do you have approprite shelter or a backup location in case of unexpected weather. We can bring our own shade pavillion, but our paints are waterbase and will run in the rain. They also feel very cold going on if we are trying to paint in the wind. If weather may be an issue you may want to ask to have the optional Glimmertoo Upgrade available just in case and we won't charge you for it unless we use it.
